Our Council provides services for 308,000 people and looks after a large area within central and southern Scotland.
Our larger towns are East Kilbride - Scotland's first and most successful new town; the burghs of Cambuslang and Rutherglen and the county town of Hamilton where the Council has its headquarters. Our beautiful countryside includes the Clyde Valley and the market towns of Lanark, Carluke and Biggar.
We have 16,250 employees (6000 working part-time) and our budget is £569 million.
We have been working hard to ensure our area is thriving and there's a great deal more we want to achieve.
We have six main priorities. They are to improve the quality of our council houses and ensure more affordable homes are built; to develop new services for the growing numbers of older people; to improve the environment and make sure our towns and villages are safe, attractive places to be; to improve our road network; to continue to modernise our schools and to encourage sustainable development.
Corporate Resources provides a range of central support services to South Lanarkshire Council which are key to the cost effective and efficient delivery of the council's functions. Working closely with elected members, colleagues in other Resources, the trade unions and other agencies, the Resource provides quality support to the council and the delivery of quality services to the public.
Our main support functions are committee administration, services to councillors, public relations, and legal and personnel services.
We also provide services direct to the public, notably district courts and licensing and the registration of births, deaths and marriages. We aim to ensure best value for the council and the people of South Lanarkshire in every aspect of the services we deliver.
